The Inspiration

Founded by Wendi Faulk Martinez, BSN, RN and Brian Schriewer, MSN, RN, Faulk Health Partners, LLC is built on the inspiration of Katie Loula Faulk who lived to be 99 years old. Katie was an amazing female role model for the entire Faulk family dating back to the early 1900s. This is Katie Loula Faulk's life story as she wrote it in 1999 to 2000, she was 92 years old at the time.

“I was born August 24, 1919, in Vermillion Indian Parish Indian Bayou, LA. My parents were Ernest and Mattie Petry. I was the fifth of eight children. We lived in a community of Indian Bayou with neighbors not far away. We lived in a small two room house. In the summer we slept with nets over the beds to keep out the mosquitos.

Grandma and Aunt Leta lived a little way from us, and I loved to go visit them and sometime spend the night. We had to cross a bridge to get there, and I was very scared to cross it and would run and sing until I crossed over it. Uncle Clifton and Aunt Martha lived a little piece further down from grandma. Uncle Clifton enjoyed coming over to our house and scaring us.

We were taught not to use bad language, and I remember hiding out because I used bad language and knew I would be punished by my mother. I hid behind a chicken coop but when it began to get dark, I had to face the punishment of my disobedience, which I’m sure was too pleasant.

Loula Foundation

The Loula Foundation, named after our Granny, Katie Loula Faulk. The Loula Foundation was formed with her life lessons being the pillars:
• Life is a teacher
• Put God first
• You can never out-give God
• Be forgiving
• Laugh every day, laugh at yourself
• Be an overcomer
• Give more than you get
• Don’t give up if you know something is right
• God puts you in the valleys so you can see the mountain tops
• Love everyone
• Never give up on family
• God blesses and takes away
• Own up to your mistakes and be grateful
Looking back on our lives, we understood how important family was in our journey. Without a strong, loving family, we would not be where we are today and, in turn, our children would not be where they are. This led us to realize that we want every child to have the opportunities a strong, healthy family has to offer even if they do not necessarily have the same foundation.
